The Code of Ethics sets out the rules of professional conduct for everyone who is part of FBBFK. It applies to athletes, coaches, judges, members of the Board and of commissions, technical, medical and administrative staff, member clubs, and anyone who takes part in the Federation’s official activities.
The Code was adopted by the Executive Board and came into force in March 2023. Its purpose is to make everyone aware of the ethics policies and procedures, of possible breaches and of the rules on impartiality, so that the integrity of the sport and public trust in the Federation are preserved.
What it contains
- Scope: who is bound by the Code and who is considered an official of the Federation.
- Ethical principles: integrity, respect and human dignity, acceptance of differences, responsibility and accountability, a sense of community and civic responsibility.
- General obligations: protecting the Federation’s interests and values, honesty, impartiality and confidentiality.
- Non-discrimination: equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, race, origin, religion, disability or political opinion.
- Confidentiality: personal data are used only for the Federation’s work and are not given to third parties without consent, except where the law requires it.
- A ban on any form of harassment, including sexual harassment, with a clear definition of what counts as such.
- Conflicts of interest: the official informs the Executive Board and waits for its approval before acting.
- Gifts and favours: benefits that affect impartiality are neither sought nor accepted; only customary hospitality and symbolic gifts are allowed.
- Fair play: manipulating results and taking part in competitions or organisations that FBBFK does not recognise are prohibited.
- Reporting breaches and final provisions; the Code is interpreted by the Executive Board.
For clubs and athletes
- Anyone bound by the Code has the right to report a breach to the Executive Board.
- Officials are obliged to report any breach they notice, through the Federation’s office.
- Taking part in competitions that are not approved by FBBFK is a breach of the Code.
